CFX384 Bio-Rad real time PCR systems
The CFX384 Touch Real-Time PCR Detection System is a powerful and precise real-time PCR instrument in a 384-well format, for researchers who require both ease of use and rapid, high-throughput data acquisition. The CFX384 Touch System utilizes accurate temperature control and sensitive, 4-color detection optics to deliver reliable and repeatable qPCR results for singleplex or multiplex reactions.
ChemiDoc (BioRad) Imaging system
The ChemiDoc Imaging System provides fast, reliable, and sensitive imaging and documentation of gels and chemiluminescence western blots. This system is compatible with stain-free technology, chemiluminescence detection, and a wide range of gel stains such as ethidium bromide, SYPRO Ruby, Coomassie, and silver stains.
Agilent High-Resolution Microarray Scanner Platform
Agilent’s high-resolution microarray scanner is part of an improved microarray platform that provides greater transcript definition and chromosomal definition, as well as expression measurements that more accurately reflect the range of gene activity in biological systems. Agilent’s system produces accurate relative quantitation of signal levels over a range of more than six orders of magnitude. This enhances data quality across a broad range of applications such as gene expression, miRNA profiling, array CGH, ChIP, and methylation assays.
ABI 3730 Genetic Analyzer
Numerous applications are addressed with high reliability and efficiency using the ABI 3730 DNA analyzer. They include DNA sequencing (de novo sequencing, resequencing, mutation detection and mitochondrial sequencing) and fragment analysis (general sizing of PCR products, SNP genotyping analysis, etc.). In our facility we have successfully performed both Sanger sequencing and short tandem repeat (STR) analysis.
Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer
The Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer is a microfluidics-based platform for sizing, quantification and quality control of DNA and RNA. After loading the sample on the Agilent chip of choice, the sample moves through microchannels and sample components are electrophoretically separated. Smaller fragments migrate faster than the large ones. The fluorescent dye molecules intercalate into DNA or RNA strands. They are then detected by their fluorescence and translated into gel-like images (bands) and electropherograms (peaks).

300 TeraFLOP Hyperion High Performance Computing Clusters
A powerful new High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster, Hyperion, is available to faculty and students at the University of South Carolina. Hyperion is the newest addition to the University of South Carolina HPC cluster environment. This 300 TeraFLOP* cluster offers both dedicated resources to research groups and shared resources to the community. USC computational capabilities will increase from 500 to 6,760 compute cores that include powerful Graphical Processing Unit (GPU) and Big Data nodes connected by a very high- speed 100 Gigabit/second network. This new cluster, managed by Research Cyberinfrastructure (RCI) in the Division of Information Technology and funded by the Office of the Provost, will enable leading-edge research capabilities in computer modeling and simulation. A greatly accelerated time-to-results will give researchers a significant advantage when competing for grants or publishing results in many areas such as bioinformatics, computational chemistry, materials fabrication, and nuclear engineering. Hyperion will also meet compute-intense demands required in data analytics and deep learning research.

The GeneChip™ Scanner 3000 7G System
The GeneChip Instrument System is a fully integrated platform for conducting your research using GeneChip-brand probe arrays. The GeneChip Scanner 3000 7G System allows you to scan next-generation higher-density for SNP, copy number, and expression arrays that can interrogate over 6 million unique sequences.
Nucleic Acids Isolation
At the FGC we have extensive experience isolating nuclei acids from different sources, including cells in culture, tissues from both animals and plants, and from soil. A key step on this protocols is the complete lysis and homogenization of the cells. For that purpose, and particularly important to process difficult to lyse tissues, we have a TissueLyser LT (QIAGEN, Inc).
